Letters
Correspondence on play, patience and the parts of a session a player actually governs.
On playing to a set budget
A letter on the one variable at a table that is genuinely under a player's own control.
Almost nothing at a table is decided by the person sitting at it. The rules are printed, the payouts are fixed, the cards fall as they fall. Of the things a player brings into the room, one is entirely their own: the amount they decided on before arriving.

On learning the rule set before the betting pattern
The hours a player spends on staking sequences would be better spent on the printed terms of the table in front of them. One of those two things changes what the game is worth, and it is not the sequence.
A rule set can be read in a minute and is the same for everyone at the table. That is exactly why it is worth reading: it is public, it is fixed, and it is the part of the game that is actually knowable in advance.
